Vancouver - I was exploring a back ally near China Town when I entered a dilapidated parking garage. Across the alley from me I photographed an older gentleman who appeared to be having a moment. He had just finished a cigarette and was looking down into the alleyway. The building is part of the Downtown Eastside, an area where there is a larger number of people who live on the street. The man appears to be fortunate because he has housing. The Vancouver Downtown East Side includes high drug use, homelessness, sex trade workers, poverty and mental illness. If you walk westbound for 10 minutes there is a transition to a different world. This includes shops, malls, high end 5 star hotels and a cruise ship terminal.
